Collective Impact Projects
Collaboration with Baitali Group: Educational Waste Signs
Partnering with Baitali Group and Directorate of Waste Management, we created educational waste signs that have been placed in prominent areas of Paramaribo. The goal of these signs is to provide clear, visually engaging and catching texts that encourages people to dispose of their waste responsibly. Each sign highlights the environmental impact of littering, and how everyone can contribute to a cleaner, more sustainable city. By using local designs and the local Surinamese language, we ensure that the message is accessible and relevant to the diverse communities in our city. This partnership has not only enhanced awareness around waste management but has also sparked conversations about personal responsibility and environmental stewardship.
Representing Suriname at the SIDS Conference
We had the honor of representing Up To You Foundation at the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) conference, in Antiqua & Barbuda, where we highlighted our country’s unique environmental challenges and our efforts to combat them. The conference provided a platform to connect with leaders and advocates from other small island nations facing similar issues, particularly around waste management and climate resilience. This experience enriched our understanding and allowed us to bring back valuable insights, which we now incorporate into our local projects, knowing that our efforts contribute to a global movement of small nations facing similar environmental challenges.
Sports Day Collaboration with Ilonka Elmont Foundation: Recycling Education through Play
In collaboration with the Ilonka Elmont Foundation, we were invited to participate in a sports day for children with disabilities, infusing a unique and creative recycling activity into the event. Our team designed a game where the children could separate their single-use water bottles in a playful and engaging way. This approach made recycling both fun and memorable, helping the children understand the impact of plastic waste in their surroundings while enjoying a day full of laughter and exercise. The positive feedback from this event affirmed our belief that environmental education can be accessible and enjoyable for all, no matter the age or ability level.
Theater of Dance: Raising Awareness Through Art
In our collaboration with a local theater of dance, we integrated the theme of irresponsible waste management into a performance that reached a broad audience. The production creatively portrayed the impact of littering and pollution on our environment, using expressive choreography to illustrate the harm caused by improper waste disposal. By weaving an environmental message into the art of dance, we reached viewers emotionally, conveying the urgent need for change in a way that resonated on a personal level. This initiative highlighted how art can be a powerful tool for social change, inspiring audiences to consider their own habits and motivating them to take part in responsible waste management.
